Cambridge Enterprise
A success story

The opportunity

University innovation thrives on diverse activities and teams, often focused on deal successes and technology translation progress. In this evolving landscape of portfolio working, consultancy emerges as a powerful vehicle for immediate impact at scale. By aligning academic and enterprise needs and leveraging intellectual capital, consultancy establishes connections with external organizations globally, nationally, and locally. Through relationship-building and simplifying administrative processes, consultancy fosters collaborations that extend beyond initial projects, offering strategic advantages like talent retention and industry scalability.

The outcome

One exemplary case illustrating the impact of Inclusify is its collaboration with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). Inclusify, a people-centric, mixed-method data collection and analysis tool developed by the Engineering Department's Inclusive Design Group at the University of Cambridge, was commissioned by STFC. The team piloted Inclusify in two of STFC's buildings, aiming to foster inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in the workplace. The pilot demonstrated the tool's reliability and its ability to enhance STFC's leadership team's data-informed decision-making process.

Furthermore, support from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Impact Acceleration Account (IAA) reinforced the development of Inclusify expanding its reach. The tool's potential for licensing through the Research Tools team, coupled with consultancy services for added value, positions it as a transformative solution with wide-ranging impact.
